Buccaneers' Jordan Whitehead injured in car accident, will miss several weeks

Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead was injured in a car accident on Saturday morning on his way to the team facility and has been placed on the non-football injury list.

The team announced the news on Saturday afternoon.

He will miss Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints, and if the Buccaneers qualify for the playoffs, he will likely be sidelined for several weeks.

There is no immediate update on the extent of Whitehead's injuries, but they are severe enough to keep him out of the lineup for an extended period.

Whitehead is in his second stint with Tampa Bay and appeared in 12 games in 2024. He recorded 79 total tackles, two for loss, one quarterback hit and three pass defenses.

He spent the previous two years with the New York Jets. The Buccaneers initially selected him in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

If Tampa Bay wins Sunday, they will clinch the NFC South. They will need the Atlanta Falcons to lose to the Carolina Panthers to clinch the division if they lose.
