One perfect free-agent signing for every AL East team

It has already been a busy offseason for the majority of teams in the American League East. Expected to once again be one of MLB's most competitive divisions in 2025, don't be surprised if more moves are still to come throughout the AL East.

With that in mind, here is one perfect free-agent fit for each of the AL East's five teams:

Baltimore Orioles: Jack Flaherty

The Orioles need to find a front-of-the-rotation starter after losing Corbin Burnes to free agency, and Flaherty would offer tremendous upside.

Flaherty and the Orioles have history together, although the right-hander struggled after being traded there by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023. His 6.75 ERA in just 34.2 innings was anything but impressive, but Flaherty has been a different pitcher since leaving Camden Yards. Last year's combined 3.17 ERA in 28 starts between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers has Flaherty set up for a new outlook in 2025, so why not head back to the Orioles and boost their rotation?

He has been linked to the Orioles throughout the offseason, and Baltimore needs more than a Charlie Morton signing to complete its rotation.

Boston Red Sox: Alex Bregman

The Red Sox need some power from the right side of the plate, and Bregman would certainly provide that. He could also answer Boston's questions about second base as Bregman has said he would be willing to shift positions with a new team.

Bregman adding his defensive skills to the Boston infield and mashing balls off the Green Monster would add to what has already been a solid offseason in Boston on the pitching side, as the team traded for Garrett Crochet and signed Walker Buehler.

By the way, in 98 career plate appearances inside Fenway Park, Bregman owns a .375/.490/.750 slash line.

New York Yankees: A.J. Minter

The Yankees got their closer by acquiring Devin Williams in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. However, that added just another right-hander to a bullpen that is already heavy on that side.

New York could take a chance on Minter, who is coming off an injury-plagued 2024 season with the Atlanta Braves. The southpaw has a career 3.28 ERA and has pitched in plenty of pressure-packed situations throughout his career, so the Bronx spotlight wouldn't be an issue.

Tampa Bay Rays: Harrison Bader

If history is any indicator, the Rays aren't going to spend a lot of money this winter. However, the team has to find some ways to get better, and that includes bringing on a veteran outfielder who is looking to bounce back from a season when he struggled with the New York Mets (.236/.284/.373 slash line and 86 OPS+).

Signing a one-year deal with the Rays could be a benefit for both parties and a low-risk, low-cost move for Tampa. Bader's defense and power might play very well this season at Steinbrenner Field.

Toronto Blue Jays: Anthony Santander

The Blue Jays need to land a big bat in free agency, and Santander would provide just that after slamming 44 home runs last season. Toronto has reportedly offered the 30-year-old switch-hitting outfielder a contract, but can the Blue Jays actually cross the finish line with it after near misses in offseason pasts?

Santander would provide another offensive threat for the Blue Jays and be a new centerpiece for the future. With the futures of mainstays such as Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette up in the air, Santander would give the Blue Jays a power threat for this season and beyond.
