The Las Vegas Raiders finished the 2024 NFL season at 4-13 following a 34-20 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium.
Following the game, Pierce met with the media and was asked twice about his job status as the head coach of the Raiders.
Twice, he said "no comment" to the media before exiting the stage, saying, "So you guys have a Happy New Year."
Pierce's status as the head coach is now up to owner Mark Davis, who must decide whether to fire Pierce after one season. Earlier in the day, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft fired head coach Jerod Mayo after one season.
Could the same happen to Pierce?
It's expected Davis will consult with minority owner Tom Brady about the head coach and the quarterback position.
Pierce said he wanted to finish the season strong and hope to end the season on a three-game winning streak. It was anything but that, as the Raiders lost to the Chargers.
He was asked if he felt that he was working with a full stack amid rumors, trades and injuries.
"I was working with 53 guys, that's all I can say," Pierce told the media. "Whatever 53 guys I get, I work with them. It is what it is."
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Davis is undecided about what to do with Pierce, while ESPN's Adam Schefter believes Pierce will be back.
But after the lopsided loss to the Chargers, Davis could pull the trigger on firing another head coach and starting over again.
The Raiders had promise after defeating the Baltimore Ravens on the road and later defeated the Cleveland Browns to go 2-2.
The following week, the Raiders could have had a 17-3 lead, but Gardner Minshew's pass was intercepted and returned for a pick-six by Patrick Surtain II that went 100 yards, and the season unraveled from there en route to a 10-game losing streak.
The Raiders will pick No. 6 in the 2025 NFL Draft.
