Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner to make Daytona 500 debut with Trackhouse Racing

The 2025 Daytona 500 field has gained a major addition.

According to Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves will attempt to make the 2025 Daytona 500 with Trackhouse Racing. If Castroneves makes the field, the race will mark his first start in any NASCAR division.

The car fielded by Trackhouse Racing will likely be the No. 91 car in the latest run for the team's "Project 91" program, which aims to bring drivers from other racing disciplines to the NASCAR Cup Series. 2007 F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen was the first driver to pilot the No. 91, finishing 37th at Watkins Glen in 2022.

Raikkonen also drove the No. 91 at COTA in 2023, but it was Shane van Gisbergen who immortalized the number with his stunning win at Chicago in July 2023. While the No. 91 car did not make any starts in 2024, Castroneves has the opportunity to bring the number back with a bang and add another prestigious win to his resume.

Trackhouse's full-time drivers for the 2025 Cup Series season include Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez.

Castroneves, a 49-year-old native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a veteran of 315 IndyCar starts. He is a 25-time winner in the series, including his four aforementioned wins in the Indianapolis 500. His most recent victory came in the 2021 Indianapolis 500.
