Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan got a shot in at Aaron Rodgers when discussing changes to his franchise following the firing of head coach Doug Pederson on Monday.

Khan was asked if quarterback Trevor Lawrence will have a say in the hiring process for the Jaguars’ next head coach. Khan responded by saying that he checks in with all of his players, not just Lawrence.

“Let’s be clear — this isn’t a second coming of Aaron Rodgers 2.0,” Khan said.

There is a strong perception that Rodgers has had outsized say in personnel decisions, particularly since he joined the New York Jets. Former Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s presence in the organization was seen by many as a concession to Rodgers in light of how fond Rodgers was of him. Khan’s message seems to be that while the Jaguars will take Lawrence’s feedback into account, the quarterback will not be picking his own coaches.

The Jaguars fired Pederson on Monday after three seasons as head coach. Khan and general manager Trent Baalke will be charged with finding a replacement.
