Dolphins GM addresses whether WR Tyreek Hill has requested a trade

The Miami Dolphins insist they've resolved their issues with wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but questions about his future remain.

In a Tuesday news conference , Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said Hill didn't request a trade, even though he recently indicated he'll play elsewhere next season.

"I'm out, bro," Hill said after a 32-20 loss to the New York Jets in Week 18, via the Miami Herald's Omar Kelly. "It was great playing here, but, at the end of the day, I've gotta do what's best for my career."

Hill pulled himself out in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said he and the wideout spoke for an hour Monday, and he told him, "It's not acceptable" to leave a game.

The coach said the Dolphins don't need to repair their relationship with Hill and held the meeting to "clear the air." Hill, 30, hasn't backpedaled on his postgame comments, which suggests he's still unhappy with the organization.

The Dolphins went 8-9 this season and missed the playoffs. This is the first time in Hill's nine-year career that he has not played in the postseason.

Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion and hip injury, missing six games. Unsurprisingly, Hill's numbers dipped. In 17 games, the eight-time Pro Bowler recorded 81 receptions for 959 yards and six touchdown catches, tied for his lowest mark since his rookie season with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016.

Although Hill hasn't requested a trade, it seems logical for both parties. Over the Cap estimates trading the WR with a post-June 1 designation would yield $14.97M in cap savings for Miami.

Hill — in the first year of a three-year, $90M deal — may want to play for a legit Super Bowl contender next season, perhaps the Washington Commanders or Los Angeles Chargers.
