The New York Giants (3-14) will select third overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. Any other year that would be high enough to land a franchise quarterback, which the team desperately needs.
However, this time, New York may have drawn the short straw. According to ESPN's Jordan Reid, the Giants might not get a college passer in the first round but potentially land the best player in the class.
Reid has the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns picking quarterbacks Cam Ward (Miami) and Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) with the first and second picks, respectively.
That would leave New York with no first-round passing talents, but that doesn't mean it would be left without a clear choice.
Reid predicts the Giants will select Colorado two-way phenom and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter. He would certainly add another receiving weapon for whoever ends up under center and potentially at corner, too.
That being said, recent revelations by insiders suggest a different course of events could unfold by April.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero told "The Rich Eisen Show" on Jan. 3 that teams internally don't evaluate Sanders as a first-round talent.
So, could New York also miss out on Hunter if Cleveland decides the best quarterback (Ward) is already gone at pick No. 2? Or if Tennessee takes Hunter and Cleveland picks Ward, what then for general manager Joe Schoen?
The Giants' meaningless win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17 took them out of position for the No. 1 pick. If that doesn't happen, then the team does not have this conundrum to consider.
Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, who was retained by ownership for another year, told the media on Monday that they will use any avenue to upgrade at the quarterback position, including trade and free agency.
Whatever course of action they decide to take, it will likely alter the franchise's future for years to come.
