Commanders could have key player back Sunday against Buccaneers

Sunday night's Commanders-Buccaneers playoff matchup is shaping up to be one of the best games of Super Wild Card Weekend.

It is a rematch of a Week 1 game that Tampa Bay dominated and won 37-20. That was the first game of Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels career, and he will now get a chance at redemption.

Another storyline that is beginning to unfold is Washington is expecting to have cornerback Marshon Lattimore available and ready to play come Sunday. He and Bucs receiver Mike Evans have a long and storied history against one another.

Lattimore was acquired by Washington at this year's trade deadline but has appeared in just two games after re-aggravating a hamstring injury.

Lattimore's first game for Washington was against his former team, the Saints. New Orleans did not target his side of the field a single time in that game, so Lattimore's first real action came in Week 16 against the Eagles.

Lattimore struggled guarding A.J. Brown in that game, allowing a touchdown catch as well as racking up over 60 pass interference yards. He would leave the game in the second half with a hamstring injury and has not played since.

He practiced Wednesday and head coach Dan Quinn said that Lattimore is "hitting all the markers" and trending in the right direction to play on Sunday.

The history between Lattimore and Evans goes back to the two being in the NFC South together for several seasons and going up against each other twice a year.

Evans has struggled against Lattimore and the Saints, averaging just three catches and 51 yards per game for his career. Evans and Lattimore have gotten into several scuffles and have both been ejected multiple times in games against each other.

It would certainly seem that Lattimore, if he plays, will shadow Evans and be matched up on him the entire game. The matchup between those two will be a focal point of the game and could help decide who advances.
