No. 5 Alabama extends winning streak with win at No. 10 Texas A&M

No. 5 Alabama picked up its eighth consecutive win on Saturday night with a road victory over No. 10 Texas A&M, 94-88.

The Crimson Tide recorded 54 rebounds in the game. This wild sequence with just over two minutes remaining culminated with a three from senior guard Mark Sears, which extended Alabama's lead to 87-80.

Sears led the way for the Crimson Tide once again with 27 points. According to TeamRankings, Alabama averaged 10.1 made threes per game coming into Saturday, which ranked 20th in the country. Although the Crimson Tide only shot 35.1% from long-range, they hit 13 shots from deep.

For Texas A&M, this marks its first loss in conference play after a 2-0 start and ends its nine-game winning streak, which was its longest since 2015-16.

The shots were harder to come by for the Aggies as they only made 4-of-18 from three-point range. Coming off a season-high 34 points against the Sooners, senior guard Zhuric Phelps carried Texas A&M's starters with 24 points while junior forward Pharrel Payne put up a season-high 23 points off the bench.

As Texas A&M (13-3, 2-1 SEC) prepares for a road trip to Lexington to face No. 6 Kentucky on Tuesday, it needs to stop falling behind. After trailing by as much as 18 against Oklahoma, Texas A&M faced a 52-44 halftime deficit to the Crimson Tide and trailed 74-59 with nine minutes remaining. That is a major area of concern for a talented Aggies team.

Alabama (14-2, 3-0 SEC) is one of only three unbeaten teams left in the SEC, along with No. 2 Auburn (15-1, 3-0 SEC) and No. 23 Ole Miss (14-2, 3-0 SEC). As the Crimson Tide prepare for a home tilt against the Rebels on Tuesday, maintaining their consistent three-point shooting is crucial.
