Jets' Davante Adams discusses possibly playing for Steelers, Mike Tomlin

The New York Jets could soon make veteran wide receiver Davante Adams a salary-cap casualty as part of a franchise reset that presumably would also involve the club parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

During a Tuesday appearance on FanDuel TV's "Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams," Davante Adams openly discussed if he would welcome the opportunity to play for Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

"One hundred percent," Davante Adams said, as shared by John J. Kurcina of Steelers Depot. "I love Mike. Anytime you have a coach that's a players' coach and you can tell that they've got a way with their guys ... those types of coaches, they always win me over. I've had nothing but respect for him and it's been mutual."

The Steelers were first linked with Davante Adams this past fall after he asked the Las Vegas Raiders for a trade. While Pittsburgh had a need at the position, the Jets ultimately acquired the 32-year-old to reunite him with Rodgers.

Adams and Rodgers were first teammates with the Green Bay Packers from 2014 through the 2021 season but were mostly unable to turn the clock back with the Jets. Team owner Woody Johnson fired both head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas during the campaign, and Gang Green ended Week 18 at 5-12.

The Steelers may look to trade wide receiver George Pickens when the new league year opens in March. Pickens is only signed through the 2025 season and gave Pittsburgh more headaches than highlight-reel moments throughout this season, but he's also undeniably the club's top playmaker.

As Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated noted, Davante Adams may or may not have teased a potential return to Green Bay when he stated during Tuesday's show segment that he feels the Packers could "need some receiver help" this offseason in the form of "maybe a veteran or something in there." With that said, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk is among NFL insiders who have suggested that Rodgers could join the Steelers in March.

History shows Davante Adams may be willing to follow his buddy to Pittsburgh, and the Steelers should want the six-time Pro Bowl selection on their roster even if they hold onto Pickens through the summer.
