Steph Curry is showing some fight for the Warriors — on and off the court

After a strong start to the 2024-25 season, the Golden State Warriors have come crashing back to Earth. Many of their issues from last season have reappeared, most notably their inability to hold onto a winning position down the stretch.

However, the Warriors clawed their way back into the 10th seed in the West after an impressive win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. If Steve Kerr's team can use that win as a springboard for more consistent output, Golden State should be confident in challenging for a playoff spot.

When speaking to the media after the game, Steph Curry sent a message to all the disgruntled fans on social media.

“All the Twitter fingers who's got deals we need to make can kind of shut up a little bit and let us figure this thing out," Curry said. "We know we can be competitive. We showed that toughness tonight. Obviously, every team is trying to find ways to get better. For us, you know, we've been great for a long time. This is just a unique year where we have to be able to stay relevant to give ourselves a chance. Just have some life in a playoff series. We have a whole lot of confidence that we can beat anybody."

Curry's comments were clearly directed at sections of the fan base and the media calling for Golden State to make a trade. Those calls have grown louder throughout the season after the front office failed to land either of Paul George or Lauri Markkanen.

Nevertheless, the Warriors appear to be gearing up to proceed with their current roster. The front office has resisted making moves that would jeopardize the franchise's future, and Curry recently warned against making a hasty decision.

“Desperate trades or desperate moves that deplete the future, there is a responsibility on allowing or keeping the franchise in a good space and good spot when it comes to where we leave this thing when we’re done,” Curry said on Monday. “[It] Doesn’t mean that you’re not trying to get better. It doesn’t mean that you’re not active in any type of search to, if you have an opportunity where a trade makes sense or even in the summer free agency [move] makes sense. You want to continue to get better."

Regardless of how things play out between now and the end of the season, Curry will undoubtedly continue to lead the line for Golden State. The veteran superstar is still the leading voice within the locker room. And he's still their star player. If he believes the roster is capable of making a deep playoff push, the front office will likely believe him.

Curry is showing some much-needed fight, both on the court and toward the media. However, at this late stage of his career, it might be prudent of him to accept he needs additional help. Otherwise, his chances of adding to his trophy collection are going to seriously diminish.
