Word surfaced on Tuesday night that the home of Pittsburgh Penguins superstar Evgeni Malkin was burglarized over the weekend while he was at one of the team's home games.
Among the items that were said to be missing where his three Stanley Cup rings that he won with the Penguins during the 2009, 2016 and 2017 seasons.
On Thursday, those missing Stanley Cup rings have been located in a rather surprising place. Where exactly were they?
They were in his house all along.
The Allegheny County Police Department issued a statement on Thursday evening that the missing rings were located still in his residence, but that there is still an ongoing investigation into the burglary.
#Update: County Police have learned Evgeni Malkin’s Stanley Cup Championship rings have been located inside his residence. This remains an active investigation, and we continue to ask anyone with information to contact the County Police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. https://t.co/oXYnyk8v2z

That is at least a sliver of good news for Malkin as the investigation continues.
Several professional athletes have been the recent target of home robberies over the past year, with Malkin's being the most recent.
Most of them have taken place when the players in question were on extended road trips. In Malkin's case the Penguins were playing home games all weekend. He did not play in either game as he was recovering from a recent injury, but was still in attendance at the games.
