The Los Angeles Dodgers are not slowing down in their quest to repeat as World Series champions.
Mark Feinsand from MLB.com reported that the Dodgers signed reliever Tanner Scott to a four-year, $72 million contract. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic added that Scott will receive a signing bonus and deferred money, as has been the case with most of the Dodgers' contracts this offseason.
Ranked as the 19th-best free agent and the top reliever available by FanGraphs, Scott had a dominant showing in 2024. He posted a 1.75 ERA and a 1.125 WHIP in his 71.3 innings between the Marlins and Padres, notching 22 saves while striking out 84 batters.
Scott adds yet another power arm to the back of the Dodgers bullpen. He will join presumed closer Michael Kopech and the recently re-signed Blake Treinen to form a formidable trio over the final few innings.
Scott is just the latest addition in what has been an impressive offseason for the Dodgers. Pitchers Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki will fortify a rotation with just two pitchers throwing more than 100 innings or making at least 20 starts.
The Dodgers re-signed outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and added Michael Conforto. Korean second baseman Hyeseong Kim signed a three-year deal, adding intriguing upside to the infield. These moves have come with a price, as Spotrac projects the Dodgers' payroll to exceed $374.5 million.
The Dodgers' offseason has led to other questions. Jon Heyman of the New York Post opined that the Dodgers' impressive roster is bad for baseball. Those deferred contracts will eventually come due. However, those are questions for the future — the Dodgers are busy building a stacked roster that should contend for a championship for years to come.
