As you know, last March, Kent Hughes traded Jake Allen for a conditional third-round pick, which could become a second-round pick if Allen plays more than 40 games.
Obviously, with the Devils' summer acquisition of Jacob Markstrom, it made that condition almost impossible. However, the situation has just changed.
As the excellent Elliotte Friedman has just pointed out, Markstrom's injury could change a lot for the Montreal Canadiens.
"The wish is that Markstrom recovers as quick as possible. One thing to remember: if Jake Allen plays 40 games, the Canadiens get a second-round selection at the upcoming draft. If not, it’s a third. (He’s at 15.)"
This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on with Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen.
It's unfortunate for them, but indeed, this injury to Markstrom could have a significant impact on the Montreal Canadiens.
Check out the sequence in question:
And the official statement that followed:
"Head coach Sheldon Keefe stated that Jacob Markstrom 'will be out for some time' following his injury during the second period of tonight's game."
