Bronny James 'grateful' after career-best performance in G League

Bronny James is beginning to justify the Lakers' faith in his talents.

On Friday night, Bronny recorded a G League career-high 31 points in the South Bay Lakers' 122-110 win over the Rip City Remix. The second-generation player shot 10-of-22 from the field, including 5-of-11 from three, to go with three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Bronny took over in the second half, including 13 fourth-quarter points, after his team was down double digits early. He also produced a SportsCenter highlight reel moment in the third quarter when he posturized Rip City's Sterling Manley with a nasty jam.

The performance was all the more impressive since Bronny had been away from the South Bay Lakers for over a month to warm the Lakers' bench. However, the stat line was not surprising considering his previous exploits in the G League, which include a 30-point performance on Dec. 12 against the Valley Suns.

After his career night, Bronny said he was "grateful" to his support staff, family members and the Lakers for believing in his abilities, even when there were question marks about his ability to play in the pros.

"I'm just trying to get my confidence back," Bronny said. "I'm just trying to go out and play my game and learn from every game. While I'm not playing in the G League, learning from the Lakers and learning from my vets. I'm happy with my results right now."

After a sluggish start to his professional career, Bronny is averaging 23 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the G League. He also makes 3.7 threes per game at an impressive 45.8% clip.
