The Philadelphia Eagles' 'tush push' is one of the most unstoppable plays in the NFL. They successfully pulled off another one on Sunday afternoon in the NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders when quarterback Jalen Hurts scored a touchdown from one yard out.
But there was nothing routine about this particular version of it.
It quickly devolved into chaos.
With the Commanders trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter and desperate to make a goal-line stand, they kept trying to time the snap count in an effort to stuff Hurts.
It failed embarrassingly and resulted in referee Shawn Hochuli threatening to award a score for the Eagles before they finally pushed it across for a touchdown.

Now the full play-by-play run down of what happened here.
That was when Hochuli threatened to award the Eagles a score "if that behavior" continued.
The next play Hurts finally scored.
As for Hochuli's threat of an awarded score, Rule 12, Section 3, Article 4 of the NFL rule book is one that allows a referee to make that decision.
I’d never heard of a rule that allowed referees to award a team a score as was suggested by the official in the Commanders-Eagles game, but sure enough, here it is. Rule 12, Section 3, Article 4. pic.twitter.com/wmDHe5s2d2

The Commanders had a lot of problems on Sunday, ranging from game-changing turnovers to a defense that was unable to stop the Eagles offense. That sequence was not only another example of the latter problem, it resulted in them getting embarrassed by both the Eagles and the referees.
