Coach, staffers detail how Nick Sirianni guided Eagles to second Super Bowl berth in three years

Head coach Nick Sirianni guided the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl berth but nevertheless reportedly began this season on the hot seat after his Eagles endured a brutal collapse from early December 2023 through a wild-card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Shortly after Sirianni led the Eagles to a dominant 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, Eagles staffers and a coach texted with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated about how Sirianni once again has a team four quarters away from potentially hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

"He’s a connector of people," one staffer said about Sirianni. "Culture is all about playing together. The entire group is bought in, and winning and maximizing the moment we are in."

Questions about the Eagles' culture hovered over the organization throughout the first nine months of 2024 after Philadelphia lost six of its final seven games (including the playoffs) of the 2023 season, after the club allegedly dealt with "a problem that would splinter any group of men" and after Sirianni's relationship with quarterback Jalen Hurts reportedly became "fractured and unhealthy." The Eagles then entered Week 5 of the ongoing campaign at 2-2 before Sirianni and Hurts worked to come up with fixes for whatever was ailing the team at that time.

Since then, Philadelphia has won 15 of 16 games leading up to the Super Bowl LIX showdown versus the Kansas City Chiefs.

"He preaches detail, detail, detail to players to such an extent that it really gets through to them to live," another staffer said about Sirianni. Meanwhile, one of Sirianni's coaches noted how he is "just an incredible leader" who "connects everyone on an individual level" and "brings the energy and focus for our team."

Outsiders may never know if the Eagles came even remotely close to replacing Sirianni with living legend Bill Belichick roughly 12 months ago. While things can change quickly in the NFL, it seems a lock Sirianni will remain with the Eagles through at least January 2026 unless he shockingly decides he wants a change this offseason.

As of Monday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles as 1.5-point underdogs against the Chiefs. Even if Sirianni's players come up a bit short at Caesars Superdome, he more than proved his worth to his current employer over the past four months or so.
