Eagles' Saquon Barkley could cap magical season with a Super Bowl birthday celebration

Saquon Barkley is enjoying one of the best seasons of any running back in NFL history.

The Eagles star has already secured an All-Pro nomination, the 2024 NFL rushing title, his first career 2,000-yard rushing season, a Pro Bowl nod and over $1 million in performance-based incentives in his Eagles debut season.

Now, after his explosive three-touchdown performance on Sunday propelled the Eagles to an NFC Championship victory over Washington, Barkley could cap his magical season with a Super Bowl win on his birthday.

"Saquon said to me, he feels like it's not an accident that Washington was able to go into Detroit and beat them," Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews said. "He feels like it was destiny, it was meant to happen that this game comes back to the Linc, he wins the NFC Championship here with the Eagles as a thank you to the fans and the organization for taking a chance on him. Ready for this? The Super Bowl is on Saquon's birthday. That's a movie!"

Super Bowl LIX will be held Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, coinciding with Barkley's 28th birthday.

For as unbelievable as Barkley's first season with the Eagles has already been, capping it off with a Super Bowl victory on his birthday would add even more to his legend. In addition to the Lombardi Trophy, Barkley will be chasing history in Super Bowl LIX.

Following his stellar outing against the Commanders, Barkley is just 58 yards shy of becoming the third player with 500+ rushing yards in a single postseason.

"They don't give me a vote for MVP but I know who I'd vote for. I'd vote for Saquon," said Eagles HC Nick Sirianni. "That was a special performance. He's a special player."

Barkley has the second-best odds (+240) to win Super Bowl MVP at BetMGM, slotting just behind Patrick Mahomes at +105 and bucking the trend of the two starting quarterbacks being favored above every other player.

All season long, the All-Pro running back has powered the Eagles' high-octane offense. Longtime Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson said Barkley’s prowess reminded him of when he played the Madden video game.

“I just tossed to Barry Sanders,” he said, “and a lot of good stuff would happen.”

For Barkley, though, MVP honors and statistical milestones are secondary and his focus remains locked on winning a Super Bowl title.

"At the end of the day, the opinions, that's for you guys," Barkley said following the wild-card win against Green Bay. "The only thing that really matters is how we win, whether we throw for 400 yards, we rush for 400 yards, we win the game 3-0, I don't give a f---, to be honest. I just want to win."
