The New York Giants will almost certainly grab a quarterback at some point during the 2025 NFL Draft and have been linked by some with Colorado star Shedeur Sanders, who they could possibly land with the third overall pick.
While speaking with reporters in Mobile for the Senior Bowl on Tuesday, Giants general manager Joe Schoen indicated he's high on Sanders.
"He’s a great kid," Schoen said about Sanders, as shared by Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic. "Really good personality. Football smart. (Pro Football Hall of Famer and father Deion Sanders is) a football coach. It’s a little bit cliche, but he checks all the boxes of (having) a dad that’s a football coach and the passion that he approaches the game with. It was good getting the meeting. He’s had a really good career in Colorado and, obviously, look forward to getting to know all those guys the rest of the process."
It remains unclear if the Giants would take Sanders or Miami's Cam Ward if both signal-callers fell to Big Blue at No. 3. In a mock draft posted on Tuesday, The Athletic's Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman predicted the Giants would choose Ward over Sanders in the event that the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns address other positions with the draft's first two picks.
Last week, Giants legend Eli Manning made it known he is a fan of Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. In their latest mock draft, Baumgardner and Dochterman had the New York Jets taking Dart at pick 42. Theoretically, the Giants could grab either Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter or Colorado cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter at No. 3 and look to select Dart with the 34th pick.
"We’re in a good position sitting at No. 3 with the players who are available," Schoen added. "By process of elimination, we know we’re gonna get a good player regardless of what happens in the next couple of months. We know there’s gonna be a really good player there."
Both Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll likely realize they could be shown the door if the team isn't at least competitive during the first half of the 2025 season as a rookie quarterback is either developing as a backup or playing well as a starter. For that reason, it's difficult to believe Schoen would pass on Sanders or Ward if one was still on the board when the Giants are called to spend the draft's third pick.
