Fleury, of course, never actually played for the Canadiens in his career, but is from nearby Sorel, Quebec, and has always been extremely fond of playing in Montreal. So it is not a surprise that the Canadiens fans, always a knowledgeable bunch and appreciative of local players, were so willing to give him such an ovation.
He has been one of the most beloved players in the league, and especially in all of the cities he has played in throughout his career. He is expected to retire after the 2024-25 NHL season.
Fleury has put together a Hall of Fame resume that includes three Stanley Cup rings, five Stanley Cup Finals appearances, a Vezina Trophy and is second on the NHL's all-time wins list.
