Hawks could be a strong landing spot for Brandon Ingram

Brandon Ingram's future has been a topic of conversation all season. The 27-year-old forward has yet to reach an agreement with the New Orleans Pelicans regarding a contract extension. As such, he will become an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

It makes sense, then, that the Pelicans would want to trade the one-time All-Star rather than losing him for nothing in a few months. According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, who was speaking on Friday's edition of "Get Up," the Atlanta Hawks could emerge as a willing trade partner.

"Brandon Ingram is a guy who has been on the trade block for months," Windhorst said. "...I'm seeing a little bit of a warm up out there ... Specifically, keep an eye on the Atlanta Hawks. They've just lost their star wing, Jalen Johnson, for the season. They may start to get interested in making a move, especially for Brandon Ingram. Keep an eye on that."

The Hawks have taken some positive strides under Quin Snyder. He has them playing faster. He's improved their defense, including that of Trae Young. And he's implemented a system that allows multi-level scorers to thrive off of Young's gravity.

Ingram would get a steady diet of high-quality shots in the Hawks rotation. On the flip side, Atlanta would be landing another 20-point scorer. Furthermore, Ingram has proven capable of being a secondary creator, averaging 4.3 assists in his career and 5.2 over 18 games this season.

However, it's unlikely the Hawks would part with the necessary trade assets to acquire Ingram without a guarantee that he would re-sign with the franchise. Pairing him with Johnson next season would significantly improve the team's chances of making noise in the 2026 playoffs.

New Orleans has enough motivation to find a buyer for Ingram. Atlanta has a reason to pursue the soon-to-be out-of-contract wing. With less than a week to go until the trade deadline, both sides need to move fast if they want to get a deal over the line.
