Not even 24 hours after being traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers in a blockbuster deal overnight Saturday, Luka Doncic decided to post a heartfelt message to his old team's fans.
The note posted to X on Sunday evening was a short yet sweet "thank you" to the city and everyone he encountered during his time there.

"I thought I'd spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship," Doncic wrote in part. "You made North Texas feel like home."
This isn't the first time the Serbian-born super star has been traded.
Doncic was selected third overall by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2018 NBA Draft before he was sent to Dallas in exchange for Trae Young. Little did anyone know then that would be just as major of a swap as what went down Saturday night.
Doncic was sent to Los Angeles for Anthony Davis, Max Christie and the Lakers' 2029 first-round pick. Markieff Morris and Maxi Kleber will also be joining him on Lebron James' team while the Utah Jazz got Jalen Hood-Schifino and two 2025 second-round picks for facilitating the deal.
It will be a jarring visual seeing Doncic in Lakers gold and purple but he made it clear to those he played in front of for nearly seven seasons that he appreciated their undying support.
"Dallas is a special place, and Mavs fans are special fans," he ended his message.
He then posted a message to Lakers fans and what he sees in his future in Los Angeles.
Grateful for this amazing opportunity. Basketball means everything to me, and no matter where I play the game, I’ll do so with the same joy, passion and goal - to win championships. https://t.co/psfgI5o9Pn

Los Angeles travels to face the Mavericks on April 9 in what should be an emotional homecoming for Doncic. But Davis and Dallas will be in town to face the Lakers on Feb. 25 in the first meeting between the two teams since the league-shattering trade.
