"As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever," Garrett said in the statement. "My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today."
Garrett added that winning a championship is the top goal for his career.
"While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent," he said in the statement. "The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns."
Given Garrett's desire to compete for a championship, his trade request out of Cleveland is not surprising. Over the last four seasons, the Browns went 29-39 and boast the 11th-fewest wins in the NFL over that span. Since Garrett was drafted to Cleveland in 2017, the Browns reached the postseason just twice, fueling Garrett's desire to leave.
With news of Garrett's aspirations to leave Cleveland now public, there will be no shortage of teams eager to acquire the four-time All-Pro defensive lineman.
Let's take a look at three possible trade suitors for the six-time Pro Bowler:
Houston Texans
A homecoming could be in order for the Arlington, Texas native Garrett. After winning the AFC South in back-to-back seasons, the Texans could be aggressive in the offseason as they look to upgrade from a playoff contender to a championship-caliber team.
With 13 draft picks at their disposal over the next two years, the Texans could realistically drum up a trade package to acquire the Browns star.
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are flush with draft assets and cap space. Plus, with franchise quarterback Justin Herbert and proven head coach Jim Harbaugh on tap, the team is primed to make a championship push.
Additionally, with Joey Bosa likely to be cut and Khalil Mack entering free agency, the Chargers will likely be in the market for pass-rushing help and could set their sights on Garrett.
Philadelphia Eagles
Less than a week away from their second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons, the Eagles aren't exactly desperate for upgrades. Philly finished with the No. 1 defense and boasts a star-studded offense, too.
Despite their lack of glaring needs, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has never been shy about trades and will likely kick the tires, at least, on acquiring Garrett.
Like the Chargers, Philly has a ton of draft capital over the next few years and could also package young players like former first-round defensive tackle Jordan Davis to sweeten the offer for Cleveland.
