Josh Jacobs feels Packers are missing players at two key positions

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs made multiple media appearances on Wednesday at the Super Bowl in New Orleans and explained what he feels is missing for the team to take that next step in 2025.

"We've got a really young group of receivers; all can be really, really, really special," Jacobs explained. "But I think, personally, we need a guy that's proven to be a No. 1 already — somebody we know that's going to be a little more consistent."

There has been much speculation about where Davante Adams, current New York Jets wide receiver and former Packers star, could play next season. Kay Adams of the "Up & Adams" show asked Jacobs if he would welcome the former Green Bay standout back to the organization.

"Most definitely," Jacobs answered. "I think he's an amazing receiver and an amazing person. Obviously, I'd want to see what it would cost us, but I do think we have a spot for him."

Since Adams last played for the Packers in 2021 before being traded to the Las Vegas Raiders, Green Bay has failed to produce a 1,000-yard receiver. During that time, the Packers have drafted six receivers, albeit in the second round or later.

In each of his first two seasons in the league — all with the Packers — Jayden Reed has led the team in receptions, including 857 yards and six TDs during the 2024 season. Christian Watson, who has proven to be a big-play threat in the passing game with an average of 21.4 yards per catch in 2024, tore his right ACL in the regular season finale against the Chicago Bears.

Aside from those two, Romeo Doubs was suspended for one game due to skipping multiple days of practice and meetings, while Dontayvion Wicks led the NFL with 10 drops. That has been a concerning trend for a Green Bay team with the highest drop rate (6.3%) in the NFL this season through Week 16, according to Gabby Robles of FanDuel.

While the Packers' offense was fifth in the league in 2024, most of its production came from Jacobs (1,329 rush yards) and a strong ground game. The passing game was 12th, leaving room for improvement after a wild-card round exit to the Philadelphia Eagles. QB Jordan Love threw three interceptions, and each receiver held under 50 yards.

In an interview with NBC Sports' "PFT Live," Jacobs pointed to the defensive end position as another area he feels the Packers lack.

"I would say, you know, I think we need another D-end. I think we need another DB," Jacobs said, per Myles Simmons of NBC Sports.

During the 2024 season, Green Bay was tied for eighth with 45 sacks. However, that was still 18 behind the Denver Broncos (63), who led the league, so adding some talent at DE could give the team an extra boost.

Jacobs has made it clear what he believes is missing from this team after a disappointing three-game losing streak to end the season. This should make for an interesting offseason in Green Bay as the franchise looks to put the pieces together and make a deeper postseason run.
