Buccaneers' Rachaad White makes bold claim about Baker Mayfield, Tom Brady

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White had Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders as a quarterback in college and has since shared pro offenses with Tom Brady and Baker Mayfield. 

During a Wednesday appearance on "The Doug Gottlieb Show," White made somewhat of a shocking revelation while speaking about those signal-callers. 

"I say all the time," White said, as shared by the JoeBucsFan website. "I’ve played with [Daniels] and Brady, and I’ve played with Baker. You ask anybody, I’ve said, interview or not, [Mayfield] is the best quarterback I’ve ever played with." 

The Buccaneers made White a third-round pick during the 2022 NFL Draft months before Brady spent 11 days away from the club during training camp for reasons presumably related to his public divorce from Gisele Bundchen. That off-the-field issue impacted Brady both emotionally and physically, and the seven-time Super Bowl champion retired in February 2023. 

Mayfield joined the Buccaneers in March of that year, and numerous team leaders have since explained why he was a perfect replacement in the lineup and behind the scenes for Brady. Meanwhile, Mayfield generated headlines this past September when he said he had learned the Buccaneers were "pretty stressed out" and "weren’t having as much fun" when Brady was the team's starter. 

Anybody who has followed the careers of the two men knows Brady and Mayfield have different personalities. As Kevin Skiver noted for Sporting News, Brady "flipped out" on teammates and coaches multiple times during White's rookie season. 

"Baker is a great guy," White added during the interview. "Baker is a dawg. He’s a savage. ...That’s what you like about him." 

Brady was a 42-year-old six-time Super Bowl champion when he signed with Tampa Bay in March 2020, while Mayfield will turn just 30 years old this coming April. Thus, it's understandable White and other current Tampa Bay players simply relate more to Mayfield than Brady. 

It's nevertheless interesting that the Brady-Mayfield comparison arose one last time before TB12 calls this Sunday's Super Bowl LIX matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles as Fox's lead in-game analyst.
