A major turn of events has surfaced in the Boston Bruins organization in relation to potentially trading captain Brad Marchand at the NHL trade deadline.

With how the Boston Bruins' season has gone, there has been a lot of talks surrounding captain Brad Marchand's future with the team.

Multiple trusted insiders have reported that Brad Marchand has generated interest from the Edmonton Oilers, and with the Bruins possibly retooling at the NHL trade deadline, this makes a lot of sense.

Brad Marchand would be able to fetch the Bruins a big return, and the move could drastically speed up the Bruins "retool," and with the captain aging, it wouldn't be the worst idea.

Brad Marchand is now 36 and is expected to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, as his $6.125 million contract is set to expire.

He is still producing as a just below a point-per-game player, and if the Bruins were to trade him, now would definitely be the time before he starts to regress.

Big turn of events in the Bruins trading Brad Marchand

Insider David Pagnotta is now reporting that a big turn of events has surfaced regarding the Bruins trading Brad Marchand.

Despite all the trade rumours, Pagnotta reported that the Bruins would consider signing Brad Marchand to a multiyear contract extension.

He also reported that if the Boston Bruins were to trade him, that it would take a significant return for them to complete a deal.

"The Bruins want to sign Brad Marchand to a multiyear deal. It would take something significant for them to move him."

According to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period (via Sportskeeda):

"With respect to Brad Marchand, I don't know how many people can envision him not being a Boston Bruin," Pagnotta said on Monday. "It's going to be interesting to see where that goes. You know, they've had on-and-off contract discussions. They didn't want it to be a distraction for the rest of the season. You've got to imagine they're going to either come to an agreement or have to be completely blown out of the water by an offer for them to consider trading their captain."

The NHL trade deadline is March 7, leaving much time for the rumors to take a turn either way.
