Browns' David Njoku reveals plan for Myles Garrett after trade request

During one of his Thursday stops on Radio Row at the Super Bowl, Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku publicly campaigned for All-Pro pass-rusher Myles Garrett to reconsider the trade request that Garrett made public earlier in the week.

It appears that was only part of a process involving Njoku trying to get Garrett to give the Browns at least one more season.

"For me, I’m Cleveland ride or die," Njoku told Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I hope Myles tries to stay. That’s like a brother to me, obviously, so I’m going to talk to him and see what I can do. That’s above me, obviously."

Starting with the statement Garrett gave media outlets on Monday, the one-time Defensive Player of the Year has made it known he wants out because he's looking "to compete for and win a Super Bowl," something he feels he won't be able to do with Cleveland before his current contract expires after the 2026 season. While Cabot is among those who think the Browns could hold onto Garrett by making him the league's highest-paid player, he said in numerous Radio Row interviews he'd instead join a contender than receive a pay raise from a Browns team that finished this season at 3-14.

"I’m going to talk to him and see what I can do, and go from there. I will try to talk to him," Njoku promised Browns fans regarding Garrett's uncertain future. "...We’re going to see. There’s only one way to find out. I’ll talk to him and we’ll go from there."

Njoku insisted that "it’s not impossible" that a franchise that went 11-6 and earned a playoff berth in 2023 could return to the postseason as soon as next January, even if a rookie quarterback is leading the charge. The Browns hold the second overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft and have been linked in stories with Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward.

"Anything is possible with anybody," Njoku explained. "...We’re going to take some time to look back on things, and figure some things out and go from there."

Garrett seemingly has decided to play for an existing contender, such as the Detroit Lions, Washington Commanders or Philadelphia Eagles. However, since Monday, Cabot has said numerous times that Cleveland isn't rushing to trade the 29-year-old.

If nothing else, it sounds like Njoku wants to plead with Garrett face-to-face before the new league year opens on March 12.
