In his first official qualifying session with Joe Gibbs Racing, Chase Briscoe made a statement.
Briscoe won the pole for Sunday's Daytona 500 with a lap of 49.249 seconds, beating Austin Cindric for the top spot. The pole is the third of Briscoe's Cup Series career and his second at Daytona. It's also the first ever Daytona 500 pole for Toyota.
"It's a great way to start our season," Briscoe told Fox Sports. "Unbelievable way to start off the year, unbelievable way to start off with Toyota. Just can't thank Coach (Joe) Gibbs enough. The whole offseason, everybody told me the focus was to qualify better on superspeedways. To come here with our No. 19 group and sit on the pole at the biggest race of the year is pretty special."

Austin Cindric qualified second, and is the only other driver to be locked into his starting spot for Sunday's race. The winners of Thursday's duel races will start third and fourth, with the duels also determining the rest of the starting lineup.
After Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson locked themselves into the race on time, the other seven open cars will compete for the final two spots in the Daytona 500 in the duel races.
Ryan Preece, Joey Logano, Josh Berry, Denny Hamlin, Austin Dillon, Christopher Bell, Ty Dillon and Kyle Larson rounded out the top-10 fastest drivers in Wednesday's session.
