Why Warriors' Stephen Curry, Draymond Green ready to make 'last run'

Stephen Curry is firmly in the twilight of his career. At 36 years old, there's no telling how long the veteran sharpshooter has left in the NBA. Therefore, it makes sense for the Golden State Warriors to maximize whatever time he has remaining.

Mike Dunleavy Jr. swung for the fences when he acquired and then extended Jimmy Butler at the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Butler fits the timeline of both Curry and Draymond Green. As such, it's clear Steve Kerr's team is in win-now mode.

During a recent episode of "The Draymond Green Show," the four-time NBA champion revealed Curry's initial reaction to the addition of the former Miami Heat standout.

"Steph, he looked like he got belief after the trade," Green said. "He looked at me, and he said, 'Man, it's crazy because it just dawned on me that this is it, this is the last run.' And I said, 'Let's do it.' It was an emotional moment."

A motivated Curry is a dangerous thing. Even at this late stage of his career, he's still the best shooter in the world. With the additional rim pressure Butler provides, Curry will likely find new pockets of space to exploit. When you add in Green, who is a generational defensive talent and basketball mind, it's hard to bet against the Warriors making at least one more NBA Finals run.

Butler's addition isn't going to fix all of Golden State's problems. It will, however, ensure the roster is far more competitive moving forward. Whether the Warriors can make a deep playoff run this season will remain to be seen. But, with another summer of internal development, and some potential new additions, Golden State will undoubtedly be a major problem in the Western Conference moving forward.

Curry is gearing up for his final run at a championship. Given how well the Warriors organization is run, you would be wise to avoid betting against him.
