Add the New York Jets to the list of teams that may target a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, which is slated for April 24-26 in Green Bay.
On Thursday, New York confirmed it is moving on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. NFL Media insider Ian Rapoport reported that the team is expected to cut the 41-year-old with a post-June 1 designation (h/t NFL.com's Nick Shook).
ESPN's Rich Cimini indicated the Jets may draft an SEC QB to replace Rodgers.
"Keep an eye on Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss," wrote Cimini. "He intrigues the Jets."
In three seasons at Ole Miss, Dart broke former New York Giants QB Eli Manning's program record for passing yards (10,617) and finished with the school's second-most touchdown passes (72).
The Jets may have concerns about Dart's ability to learn an NFL offense. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's quarterbacks, including Matt Corral, have struggled in the pros. However, he may have alleviated those concerns at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
"Some considered Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart to be the best quarterback in attendance at last week's Senior Bowl," recently wrote The Draft Network's Justin Melo. "The intrigue continues to grow. Dart has allegedly entered the first-round conversation, according to multiple leaguewide sources."
While Dart is generating some first-round buzz, taking him with pick No. 7 could be a reach for the Jets, especially when he could still fall to New York in the second round. On Tankathon's top-100 board, the site lists the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder as its No. 50 prospect.
Despite their interest in Dart, the Jets could still add another QB in free agency. Jets QB Tyrod Taylor has one year left on his contract but has a 28-28-1 starting record in 14 seasons.
Cimini suggested New York could add Pittsburgh Steelers QB Justin Fields or Kirk Cousins, assuming the Atlanta Falcons cut him.
Drafting Dart and signing a bridge QB could stabilize the most important position, which New York must do to break the longest postseason drought in the NFL. The Jets haven't made the playoffs since 2010.
