Four teams who need to trade for Browns DE Myles Garrett the most

With so much talk about star quarterbacks and wide receivers who will likely have new NFL homes for the 2025 season, it's very possible the most impactful move will come from a defensive star. Browns defensive end Myles Garrett has made his feelings known. He wants out of Cleveland and he wants to play for a contender.

While Cleveland could decide to keep him since his departure will be a major hit to the franchise, the fact Garrett is being so vocal about wanting to leave almost ensures a trade will happen. Garrett is also the player with the most value and whatever the Browns get back in a trade could help lay the foundation for another Cleveland rebuild.

With Garrett desiring a chance to compete for a championship, which contenders should trade for the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year as their missing piece?

Washington Commanders

There's no franchise with a better opportunity to take another step forward in 2025. And with about $78 million in cap space and an abundance of draft picks at its disposal, Washington has the goods and would be an attractive trade partner for Cleveland.

More importantly, this is the time to strike for Washington. The Commanders are coming off the franchise's best season in decades and are firmly behind Jayden Daniels as their quarterback of the present and future.

And while getting Daniels more weapons to help him take his game to another level after his incredible rookie campaign will be important, adding a beast like Garrett for the defense will take pressure off of the offense and help win games as well.

Detroit Lions

If Garrett can't get the Browns over the hump, why not try to do it for another Midwest city that hasn't experienced seeing their team in a Super Bowl?

That's where the Lions come in. Despite suffering the disappointment of Divisional Round playoff loss to the aforementioned Commanders, Detroit still has a roster to compete in the NFC. The Lions have a sense of urgency, an estimated $46.5 million in cap space and could use a game-wrecker like Garrett to put pressure on the opposing quarterback.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay made the playoffs and lost to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, but it still feels like the Packers need more to actually make a run.

Adding Garrett would instantly transform the Packers' defense and provide a new injection into one of the NFL's most storied organizations. Green Bay's defense needs more juice - Rashan Gary led the team with 7.5 sacks. Garrett has surpassed that mark every season of his career since his rookie year.

Buffalo Bills

The Bills may not have as much cap space - they have just over $14 million available - and the Browns may prefer to ship Garrett to the NFC, but Buffalo should also do whatever it takes to get the four-time first-team All-Pro.

Josh Allen was named MVP and the Bills were among the NFL's elite again. But all that got them was another playoff loss to the Chiefs, this time in the AFC Championship Game.

Buffalo is clearly on the cusp, but the Chiefs aren't going anywhere and Garrett could finally stack the deck in the Bills' favor as players like Von Miller get older.

The Chicago Bears and even the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles are other teams to watch for Garrett.
