How Mississippi State finally got a win over Top 10 opponent

After failing to do so in their first five chances this season, the Mississippi State Bulldogs have finally beaten a Top 10 opponent.

The Bulldogs used a 40-point second half to knock off No. 7 Texas A&M, 70-54 on Tuesday night in Starkville.

Mississippi State had just a six-point lead with 5:44 remaining in the game before going on a 20-10 run to finish off the Aggies.

Josh Hubbard had his best game in weeks, finishing with a game high 25 points as well as two rebounds, four assists and four steals. Hubbard had not scored more than 20 points in a game since Feb. 1 in a loss to Missouri.

Claudell Harris Jr. caught fire in the second half, scoring 12 of his 15 points for the game. Harris knocked down a trio of three-pointers in a two-minute stretch that helped the Bulldogs begin to pull away with the win.

The 54 points for Texas A&M was its least in a game this season and was well under their season average of 74.5 points per game.

The Aggies shot just 35.8% from the field, much less than the Bulldogs 43.1%.

Zhuric Phelps was the leading scorer with 13 points. Star point guard Wade Taylor was held to just 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting from the field.

CJ Wilcher had his best game in conference play, scoring 11 points and going 3-of-4 from three off the bench for A&M.

Mississippi State has an extremely favorable schedule the rest of the way with just one matchup against a Top 25 opponent (at No. 4 Alabama) remaining before the SEC Tournament.

As for Texas A&M, it still has to match up with No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 Florida and No. 6 Tennessee before season's end.
