WNBA veteran's agent fires back after team blocks trade request

Marina Mabrey’s agent is not pleased with how the Connecticut Sun are handling his client’s future. In a WNBA offseason full of seismic roster moves, the Sun have denied Mabrey’s trade request, keeping her on a team that has already seen a complete overhaul.

With Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner and Brionna Jones all departing in free agency and the team trading DiJonai Carrington and Ty Harris, Connecticut became the first team in WNBA — or even NBA — history to lose all five of their playoff starters in a single offseason.

Yet, despite parting ways with multiple key players, they are refusing to move Mabrey — a decision that her agent, Marcus Crenshaw, finds frustrating.

"In this current age of women's empowerment and support of the players, the Connecticut Sun threatening to force Marina Mabrey to play for them after her trade request is mind-boggling," Crenshaw said, according to Alexa Philippou. "Why would anyone try to force someone to play on their team when they don’t want to be there? It’s counterproductive in a ton of ways, and everyone we have spoken to is perplexed about how they are handling Marina after trading away Hall of Fame-caliber players."

Mabrey arrived in Connecticut last summer via trade from the Chicago Sky, after the Sun sent Rachel Banham, Moriah Jefferson, a 2025 first-round pick and a 2026 pick swap to acquire her.

The veteran guard played a key role off the bench, averaging 14.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists in 16 regular-season games for Connecticut.

While the Sun appear determined to keep Mabrey, the situation remains tense. Her agent’s public frustration signals that this saga is far from over.
