Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway is an opportunity for small teams and underdog drivers to prove themselves on a big stage. Ahead of Saturday's Fr8 208, here are three underdogs to watch in the second race of the 2025 Truck Series season.
Frankie Muniz, No. 33 Ford F-150, Reaume Brothers Racing
The actor-turned-race car driver finished 10th in the season-opener at Daytona in his most impressive NASCAR start yet. His Reaume Brothers Racing truck was fast enough to keep pace with the leaders, and in a race that will likely see its share of chaos and attrition, Muniz could have a shot at consecutive top-10 finishes to open the 2025 season.
Gio Ruggiero, No. 17 Toyota Tundra, TRICON Garage
Ruggiero might drive for what is arguably the best team in the Truck Series, but Saturday's race will only be his second Truck Series start. Ruggiero led 11 laps late in the race at Daytona en route to a runner-up finish and showed maturity in a pressure-packed situation. Keeping calm will be crucial at Atlanta on Sunday, and if Ruggiero is in the mix, he'll have the chance to earn his first Truck Series win.
Dawson Sutton, No. 26 Chevrolet Silverado, Rackley W.A.R.
A 25th-place finish at Daytona wasn't an ideal way for Sutton to start his rookie season in the Truck Series, but Atlanta gives him the opportunity to bounce back. Sutton was solid in his seven starts in 2024 and even brought home a top-five at Kansas in September. If his Silverado is still running at the end of the race, he'll be on the lookout for a solid finish that could spur the No. 26 team going forward.
