Superstar outfielder Juan Soto wasted no time introducing himself to New York Mets fans.
As for Yankees fans, you might want to shield your eyes.
Soto, making his spring training debut on Saturday, crushed a 2-1 pitch from Houston Astros' left-hander Colton Gordon over the left-center field wall at Clover Park for a home run in his first Mets at-bat.
According to Statcast, the ball left Soto's bat at 106.2 miles per hour and traveled 426 feet. That's some hard contact.
The 26-year-old All-Star signed a record 15-year, $765M contract with the Mets this past winter, becoming the highest-paid athlete in the history of North American sports. That should make this highlight a fairly regular occurrence in Queens for a long time.
Soto is coming off arguably his best season thus far after swatting 41 home runs and driving in 109, hitting ahead of Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge to become the sport's most lethal duo. The former will hope to have similar lineup protection this season in Mets' first baseman Pete Alonso, though Alonso is not Judge. Still, this long ball demonstrates what Soto can do in his own right.

Of course, this home run comes with the important caveat that it's only spring training. However, it's hard for Mets fans not to get excited that Soto has hit the ground running in 2025.
