Josh Giddey’s post-All-Star surge puts Bulls, free agency on notice

Josh Giddey’s transition in Chicago has been anything but seamless.

The Australian arrived with the challenge of proving his value in a new system while adjusting to a team in flux. Early struggles raised concerns about his long-term fit, but since the All-Star break, the 6-foot-8 guard has responded with some of his most impactful basketball yet, boosting his stock ahead of a pivotal offseason.

Since the break, Giddey has emerged as a key contributor for the Bulls, showcasing improved efficiency and playmaking. Over his first three games back, he has averaged 25.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting a blistering 71.4% from three.

On Monday night, he posted 25 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists in a 142-110 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. In doing so, he joined Michael Jordan, Jerry Sloan, Clem Haskins and Guy Rodgers as the only Bulls to record at least three consecutive 20-point double-doubles, per Bulls PR (h/t K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network).

The performance underscored the unique versatility that made him a lottery pick, reinforcing his ability to impact games beyond scoring.

One of the biggest knocks on Giddey has been his outside shooting, but his post-All-Star numbers suggest real growth. His confidence from beyond the arc has increased, and his efficiency has followed suit. Meanwhile, his rebounding and court vision remain elite, allowing him to contribute even on nights when his scoring dips.

As Giddey approaches restricted free agency in the summer of 2025, the Bulls face a crucial decision. The team can extend a qualifying offer to retain matching rights or let him test the market. Chicago’s front office must weigh his recent surge against his overall fit in their long-term plans, especially with potential roster changes on the horizon.

The broader market for the 22-year-old remains uncertain. Teams in need of a big guard with high-level passing and rebounding could view him as an appealing target, but his shooting consistency will likely dictate his value. If he sustains this post-All-Star production, he could secure a significant contract, whether in Chicago or elsewhere.

For now, Giddey’s focus is on maintaining momentum. The final stretch of the season could prove pivotal — not just for the Bulls, but for defining the next chapter of his career.
