Warriors fifth team in NBA history to hit milestone

The red-hot Warriors extended their win streak to four Tuesday with a 128-92 drubbing of the Hornets. The outcome was extra special as it marked the franchise's 3,000th regular-season victory, joining the Lakers, Celtics, 76ers and Knicks as the fifth team to achieve the milestone.

The tally of wins includes the club's previous iterations as the Philadelphia Warriors (1946-62) and San Francisco Warriors (1962-72). The franchise officially became the Golden State Warriors in 1971, ushering in the era of Rick Barry and Nate Thurmond.

Golden State also ranks fifth all-time in postseason wins with 212, trailing only the Lakers (467), Celtics (423), 76ers (251) and Spurs (222). The playoff success led to the franchise capturing seven championships, which ranks third all-time behind the Celtics (18) and Lakers (17).

It was rather poetic that the Warriors reached the milestone the same night they honored the 2015 championship-winning team, which ushered in a dynasty that captured another three titles in 2017, 2018 and 2022. After Tuesday's win, Draymond Green took a moment to acknowledge the importance of the milestone.

"We all talk [about] the best organization in the league, and so for me to spend 13 years here and be a small part of that history — absolutely special," Green told NBC Sports Bay Area. "I remember when people were trying to say this was the laughingstock of the league — and yet you're one of five in history to have 3,000 wins. It's special, but we've got a lot more work to do."

As Green alluded, the Warriors have come a long way over the last dozen years after spending decades as a bottom feeder in the West. In the Stephen Curry era, the club saw its valuation balloon from $315M in 2009 to $8.8B in 2024, becoming the second-most valuable franchise in sports. Some have called Curry the biggest needle-mover in sports for almost single-handedly altering a franchise's fortunes.
