49ers GM has revealing comments on Brock Purdy extension talks

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is heading into the final year of his rookie contract.

At this time, he has no guarantees beyond the 2025 season, and he's only scheduled to make $5 million — a bargain for a quarterback who has led his team to the Super Bowl.

The expectation is that Purdy will receive a contract extension sometime this offseason, and the sooner the better for both parties involved.

When exactly will it happen? That's up in the air. Keep in mind, we haven't even hit free agency or the 2025 NFL Draft yet.

With that said, speaking at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, general manager John Lynch did reveal that the two sides have been talking about the new deal.

"We have started negotiations. We're talking. I won't go into negotiations, like always is our stance. We want Brock to be our quarterback as long as we are here and beyond, and we'll leave it at that," Lynch said, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. "I think the final thing; there's no guarantees that we'll get something done, but my experience has been, when both sides are motivated, there's ample opportunity to do so and we've been able to do that."

While Lynch did hedge his bets a bit, it does sound like this is a deal that will be wrapped up well before training camp begins in the summer.
