What should the Giants should do with this unhappy WR

The New York Giants have several areas on their roster that need improvement but one player could provide the key to increased flexibility.

Wide receiver Jalin Hyatt was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft but has yet to record a touchdown in two seasons despite averaging 16.2 yards per reception his rookie year, but plummeting to 7.8 in 2024.

According to team insider Jordan Raanan (h/t ESPN), Hyatt is "unhappy" and may deserve a "fresh start."

While discontented players typically become nuisances for teams, Hyatt could be a blessing in disguise for general manager Joe Schoen.

There's two ways the Giants could turn Hyatt's potential into immediate improvements.

Trade him for draft capital

The Giants own the No. 3 overall pick in the first round and could use all the draft capital they can get their hands on ahead of April.

Rumors have swirled around whether New York would be willing to trade up with the Tennessee Titans for the No. 1 pick or potentially trade down for a haul of additional selections.

Hyatt could easily be packed into a deal by Schoen that would net two or more additional players for the team whether in this draft or the next.

Trade him for a veteran playmaker

If Schoen doesn't want to use Hyatt as a bargaining chip for a group of unproven prospects, he could always find a suitor with a veteran he needs.

With the team desperate for a quarterback and this year's draft class being less than stacked, Hyatt could feature in a package for a passer like Matthew Stafford — especially with Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp heading out the door.

Schoen could also take an expensive weapon off the hands of a team wanting for cap space (New York has the 14th-most to work with).

Reports emerged Thursday that the San Francisco 49ers are listening to offers for wideout Brandon Aiyuk. Hyatt plus another player or some picks could suffice in a deal for the sixth-year veteran.

There's an opportunity here for the Giants if head coach Brian Daboll isn't going to get Hyatt more involved in the offense. His talents could prove more valuable in the market than on the field.
