This trio of prospects hint at a bright future for Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox drew attention during the offseason for their acquisitions in free agency and via trade. However, a trio of prospects are showing that the Red Sox have a bright future ahead.

Each of the Red Sox top three prospects — outfielder Roman Anthony, infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell and shortstop Marcelo Mayer — saw action in the Red Sox's 6-5 victory against the Tigers on Thursday.

That trio had an impressive day, going a combined 4-for-8 with a double, a triple and a homer while driving in four runs.

Each prospect has made their marks amongst the top prospects in the game, comprising three of the top 12 prospects in baseball. All three are expected to make their major league debut sometime this season, adding to an excellent core in third basemen Alex Bregman and Rafael Devers and outfielder Jarren Duran.

Anthony, the second-best prospect in baseball per MLB.com, posted a .291/.396/.498 batting line in his 540 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A, hitting 18 homers and 32 doubles while stealing 21 bases. He is lauded for his advanced approach at the plate and plus hit tool, with MLB.com projecting him as a potential .300 hitter with 30+ home runs in his prime.

Campbell, the seventh-best prospect, skyrocketed through the Red Sox farm system and up the prospect lists. He produced an impressive .330/.439/.558 batting line in his 517 plate appearances across three levels, hitting 20 homers and 32 doubles while stealing 24 bases. While Campbell has primarily spent time at second and short as a professional, he is expected to eventually move to center. Regardless of where he ends up, Campbell is expected to be an all-around contributor with the bat.

Mayer, MLB.com's 12th-ranked prospect, has impressed when he has been on the diamond. His durability is the one concern, however, as he has missed time in each of the past two seasons. A solid, all-around player whose instincts allow him to make the most of his tools, Mayer posted a .307/.370/.480 batting line in his 335 plate appearances, hitting eight homers and 28 doubles while stealing 13 bases.

Anthony, Campbell and Mayer provided a glimpse as to what lies ahead for the Red Sox's future on Thursday.
