Packers offseason checklist: Two massive deals Green Bay must make

With the new league year kicking off March 12, NFL teams are already deep into planning for the offseason.

Here are five moves the Green Bay Packers should make in the coming months:

1. Trade CB Jaire Alexander

Alexander has been a crucial part of Green Bay's defensive identity for seven years, but the time has come for both sides to move on. Because of a host of injuries, the two-time Pro Bowler has missed at least 10 games in three of the past four seasons.

In addition to his inability to stay on the field, Alexander carries a cap hit of $25.5M in 2025. Trading him this summer would create an extra $6.8M in cap space next season and $27.4M in 2026. It's now or never to get off this contract. There must be at least one contender willing to take a chance on Alexander's upside.

2. Sign CB Paulson Adebo in free agency

The Packers aren't afraid to spend big money in free agency, as we saw last offseason when they opened the checkbook for RB Josh Jacobs and safety Xavier McKinney. General manager Brian Gutekunst will be aggressive in free agency once again, and cornerback will be a priority if Green Bay finds a way to deal Alexander for draft picks.

Adebo, an unrestricted free agent, is a ballhawk with seven interceptions and 28 passes defended over the past two years for New Orleans, and that was with him missing 10 games last season because of a broken leg. The 26-year-old would be a perfect replacement for Alexander.

3. Sign WR Keenan Allen in free agency

The Packers have a talented group of young wide receivers, but they've had trouble staying on the field. Green Bay finished the 2024 season with Bo Melton, Malik Heath and Dontayvion Wicks on the field. This WR room needs a leader with more experience.

Allen, who underwhelmed with the Bears last season (744 yards receiving),  has 12 years' experience in the NFL and 974 catches. He'd be the reliable target Jordan Love desperately needs on third down.

4. Re-sign K Brandon McManus

The Packers have gone through a carousel of disappointing kickers since Mason Crosby left town, but they found a reliable option last season in McManus. The veteran went 20-for-21 (95.2 percent) on field-goal attempts and 30-for-30 on extra-point attempts in the regular season.

The Packers have seen first hand how unreliable kickers can decide game outcomes, so re-signing McManus, an unrestricted free agent, should be a priority this offseason.

5. Trade for Cleveland's Myles Garrett

Didn't see that coming, did you?

For Gutekunst to turn the Packers into a Super Bowl contender in 2025, this is a move he should make. Green Bay has a franchise quarterback entering the prime of his career, a situation most teams could only dream of stumbling into. Now is the time to go all-in, and there's no better way to do that than to trade for Cleveland's Garrett, the most disruptive pass-rusher in the NFL.
