With the new league year kicking off March 12, NFL teams are already deep into planning for the offseason.
Here are five moves the Los Angeles Rams should make in the coming months:
1. Move on from Cooper Kupp
At his best, Kupp was an enormous part of the Rams offense and one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. While he can still be an impactful player when healthy, that just simply has not happened enough in the past three years to justify his contract.
Kupp has appeared in just 32 games over the past three seasons and has been a fraction of the player he used to be.
With the emergence of Puka Nacua as the Rams' new No. 1 wide receiver, the time has come for Kupp to find a new team.
2. Cornerbacks. Cornerbacks. Cornerbacks
Cornerback was a huge weakness for the Rams in 2023, and they really tried to address it in the offseason, signing Darious Williams and Tre'Davious White to go with Ahkello Witherspoon. It produced very mixed results.
While Witherspoon had a solid season, the Rams are still in need of somebody who can be a No. 1, lockdown corner if their defense is going to take the next step and help them get back to a Super Bowl level.
3. Look for a more impactful tight end
Tyler Higbee has given the Rams a lot of strong play for nearly a decade, but he is 32 years old and was limited to just three games in 2024. They could use not only an upgrade at tight end but also a legitimate playmaker. This would be a perfect landing spot for somebody like Penn State's Tyler Warren in the first round.
4. Start thinking about long-term quarterback options
Getting the Matthew Stafford situation settled was originally the No. 1 priority on this list, and the Rams did that to ensure he will be their quarterback for the foreseeable future.
That was a necessary move when it came to keeping the Rams a contender in the short-term.
But as positive as that is, Stafford is not going to play forever, and they could still use an upgrade behind him on the depth chart. They should not use a first or even second-round pick on a quarterback, but if somebody stands out to them in the third round or later, it might not be a bad idea to take a developmental project.
5. More offensive-line help
A good rule of thumb for teams is that you can never have enough good offensive linemen. That is especially true when you are a contender and when you do not have a lot of good offensive linemen to begin with.
The Rams fit both of those descriptions.
Getting left tackle Alaric Jackson re-signed was a huge move this offseason that was overshadowed by the Stafford return, but that is not going to be enough. Whether through the draft or free agency, the Rams need to put an emphasis on strengthening both the quality and quantity of their offensive linemen.
