Paige Bueckers reaches historic milestone as UConn secures Big East final berth

In a commanding 92-57 victory over Marquette on Sunday, Paige Bueckers added another chapter to her storied college career.

Leading UConn with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists, Bueckers guided the Huskies to the Big East Conference final after completing a flawless 18-0 regular-season campaign, bringing their overall record to 28-3.

Beyond the team’s success, the 23-year-old has etched her name in the history books with a statistical milestone no other Division I player, male or female, has achieved in the 21st century.

According to OptaSTATS, Bueckers is now the only Division I player this century to surpass 2,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists while maintaining shooting splits of at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

This rare blend of scoring efficiency, playmaking and versatility cements her status among the game’s collegiate greats as she prepares to take her talents to the WNBA.

Through 29 games this season, the 6-foot guard is averaging 18.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.1 steals, shooting 53.4 percent from the field and 40.8 percent from three. Over 114 career games, she has maintained an impressive 42.1 percent accuracy from beyond the arc on 4.5 attempts per game.

Since arriving at UConn as the nation’s top recruit in 2020, Bueckers has lived up to every expectation. She became a first-team All-American as a freshman and has remained a cornerstone of Geno Auriemma’s program despite injuries. Her recent induction into the "Huskies of Honor" program further solidifies her place in UConn’s storied history, joining legends like Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Maya Moore.

Now, with the Big East title within reach, UConn aims to further strengthen its NCAA Tournament resume as it pursues another national championship.

Bueckers’ milestone highlights not just her brilliance but also her profound impact on the Huskies’ success. In an era where specialization often defines players, her ability to excel across multiple facets of the game makes her one of the most complete players college basketball has ever seen.
