AFC West NFLPA report card takeaways: Which team despises its home-game hotel?

The NFL Players Association recently released its third annual report cards for the league's 32 teams. Nearly 1,700 players shared with their union information about their team's facilities, treatment of their families and more.

Here are four surprising takeaways from the AFC West:

Denver Broncos: Head coach Sean Payton's grade sinks

Payton's grade dropped from an A- to a B in 2025. The NFLPA found, "80% of Broncos players feel their head coach is efficient with their time, a rank of 27 out of 32."

"The players feel that Payton is moderately receptive to locker room feedback on the team's needs, ranking him 29 of 32 head coaches in the league," the report card continued.

Despite Payton's poor marks, the Broncos rebounded during the 2024 season, going 10-7 and making the playoffs for the first time since 2015.

Kansas City Chiefs: Home-game hotel sounds disgusting

The Chiefs have made five Super Bowls over the past six seasons, winning three. Why does a first-class organization seemingly have a one-star hotel?

"Players say their home game hotel is below standard. They report that it is outdated, the beds are uncomfortable, and many players even keep their shoes on in their rooms because the floors — especially in the bathroom — are dirty and sticky," the report card said. "Leftover trash from previous occupants is also a common issue. It's no surprise the Chiefs game hotel scored the lowest in the NFL."

Whether Chiefs owner Clark Hunt will invest in a new hotel remains to be seen. Hunt ranked 26th in the league in perceived willingness to invest in team facilities.

Las Vegas Raiders: Receive high marks across the board

The Raiders were the AFC West's highest-graded team, receiving A's in 10 of the survey's 11 categories. Their lowest mark was a B+ in treatment of families, which was still the league's eighth-best grade.

"The Raiders finished fourth in this year's report card, with their state-of-the-art facility ranking among the NFL's best," the report card said. "Players are very complimentary of owner Mark Davis and believe the best thing the organization does is make them feel like they're part of the Raider 'family.'"

This shows that a high grade on the report card may not equate to winning. In 2024, the Raiders finished last in the AFC West, going 4-13.

Los Angeles Chargers: AFC West's most improved team

In the 2025 survey, the Chargers' overall ranking vaulted from 30th in the league to fifth.

Per L.A.'s report card, it opened a new training facility this season, one key reason its grade improved significantly. The Chargers also have six categories that rank in the league's top five, including locker room, food/dining area and training staff.

The Chargers still have areas where they can grow. Per the report card, players would like a more efficient travel schedule. They also want head coach Jim Harbaugh to stop wasting their time.

The report card said, "55% of players feel their head coach Jim Harbaugh is efficient with their time, a rank 32 out of 32."
