Kevin Durant could move teams in the summer. The All-Star forward is key to the Phoenix Suns rebuilding (or retooling) efforts. His $54.7 million salary for next season is sizeable enough to provide the front office with some wiggle room, especially if they can offload Bradley Beal and/or Devin Booker, too.
While Durant's future is a mystery in terms of where he will end up, his impending divorce from the Suns is becoming the league's worst kept secret.
In a recent episode of ESPN's "NBA Countdown," Shams Charania reported that Durant and the Suns are expected to work together in finding him a new situation, assuming Phoenix doesn't make noise in the playoffs.
“Unless there is a significant run here into the playoffs for the Phoenix Suns, league sources believe that there will be real changes coming to the Suns. From a roster standpoint, that likely starts with Kevin Durant,” Charania said. “This offseason, from my understanding, what it would look like is that the Suns and Durant will work together on any potential trade to a contender.”

Over the remainder of the season, Durant will be tasked with creating interest in his services. Yes, his name alone will draw some potential overtures. However, it's his on-court production that will create a bidding war that helps the Suns hit the reset button.
At 36 years old, everybody knows Durant is entering his final act in the NBA. Yet, his scoring ability appears to be timeless, and that is what will draw wishful glances from contending teams around the NBA.
Even in the dumpsterfire season the Suns are having, Durant is averaging 26.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He's getting those numbers on 52.9% shooting from the field and 39.9% from deep, too.
With a potential move set for the summer, Durant now has all the motivation he needs to take his game to another level. Regardless of how well he plays, the Suns are unlikely to taste success this year. However, if he can remind the world why he's a future first-ballot Hall of Famer, he will likely have his pick of landing spots later this year.
