No. 1 Auburn knocked off for just second time in SEC play this season

Three days after clinching the regular-season SEC championship, No. 1 Auburn lost just its second SEC game, and third overall game of the season, losing 83-72 to No. 22 Texas A&M.

It was the first win for A&M against a ranked opponent since Feb. 8 when it knocked off then-No. 15 Missouri and its first at home against a ranked opponent since all the way back in November against then-No. 21 Ohio State.

The Aggies never trailed in the game and led by as many as 13 points in the second half. Zhuric Phelps led A&M in scoring with 19 points off the bench. It was his most points in a game since he scored 21 against Kentucky in January.

Wade Taylor IV scored 16 points, his eleventh straight game with 10-plus points. Pharrel Payne was also in double figures off the bench 12 points.

Andersson Garcia may have played the best all-around game, as he finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Tahaad Pettiford was a bright spot for Auburn, scoring 19 points and going 6-for-10 from three-point range.

Chad Baker-Mazara scored 15 and went 3-for-6 from long distance. Baker-Mazara and Pettiford accounted for all nine of Auburn's three-pointers.

Miles Kelly also managed to score 12 points, despite a 1-for-8 shooting night.

Even with the loss, Auburn still sits in a prime spot to secure a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament as it will wrap up the regular season on Saturday against No. 7 Alabama.
