Reporter discusses why Raiders may not pursue four-time MVP

The Las Vegas Raiders desperately need a quarterback, but don't count on them pursuing Aaron Rodgers of the New York Jets.

The Jets have already confirmed they're moving on from Rodgers this offseason. New York will probably release the four-time MVP.

During a Tuesday episode of the "Scoop City" podcast, The Athletic's Dianna Russini said she doesn't think Rodgers will pique the Raiders' interest.

"I can't think of a place that makes sense for [Rodgers]. Do you think Vegas should go after him? I don't sense that they are," Russini said. "Vegas has interest in Russell Wilson, I'm hearing some Sam Darnold."

Although Rodgers failed to lead the Jets to the playoffs in 2024, it's easy to argue he's better than the QBs on the Raiders' active roster.

In 17 starts in 2024, Rodgers finished with 3,897 yards passing, 28 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions, posting a below-average 48 QBR.

Meanwhile, Raiders QBs Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell combined for 3,625 passing yards and 17 TD passes.

However, a team in win-now mode should sign a 41-year-old QB, not one that could be entering a rebuild like the Raiders. In 2024, Las Vegas went 4-13, missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season.

The Raiders could also take a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft. In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Jordan Reid has Las Vegas selecting Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart with pick No. 37 in the second round. Dart may have upside, as he posted the FBS' fourth-best QBR (86.3) in 13 games in 2024.

If the Raiders won't sign Rodgers, who will? Other QB-needy teams (Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans) are in a similar situation to that of Vegas and may want to roll with a younger passer.

Rodgers may want to win a second Super Bowl, but it's unclear if he'll get another opportunity to do that. His market seems to be shrinking before free agency starts on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET.
