It has not been a great start to the 2025 MLB season for Texas Rangers outfielder Adolis Garcia.
The two-time All-Star and 2023 World Series champion was scratched from a spring training game on Tuesday, and ESPN and the Associated Press are reporting that his status for Texas' Opening Day matchup with the Boston Red Sox is in question.
He will undergo an MRI on his left oblique — the same oblique he had injured during the Rangers' incredible run to the World Series in 2023.
How long will it keep him out? Manager Bruce Bochy seemed hopeful, but he doesn't know. "He's going to miss a little bit of time. We're hoping not much," Bochy told reporters on Tuesday, via ESPN and the AP.
This is an especially tough injury for the Rangers considering the fact that second-year star outfielder Wyatt Langford has also been sidelined by an oblique injury this spring.
With that said, Langford does seem to be close to returning this spring, so that's at least good news for the Rangers.
“He’s about ready to go,” Bochy recently said of Langford, according to Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News. “Right now, he’s doing his thing in the cages, doing his thing, letting it go. You’ll see him here soon in a few days.”
Garcia hit .224 with 25 home runs and 85 RBI last season for Texas with an OPS of .684. In 2023, he hit .245 with 39 home runs and 107 RBI with an OPS of .836.
