No. 23 BYU upsets No. 10 Iowa State in double-OT slugfest

The win for BYU was its seventh straight overall and third straight against a ranked opponent. 

The Cougars have given themselves a chance to be as high as the No. 2 seed in the Big 12 Tournament with certain results from other teams.

Richie Saunders was the game's leading scorer with 23 points. Saunders shot just 4-of-12 from the field but was a perfect 13-of-13 at the free-throw line.

Dallin Hall poured in 22 points off the bench, including 4-of-9 from three. Egor Demin (12 points) and Mawot Mag (10 points) were also in double figures.

The loss for Iowa State was its third in the last four games, and it has lost any chance at earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Four of the five starters for the Cyclones were in double figures, led by Joshua Jefferson who had 19 points. Jefferson's 19 were his most since he scored 30 against UCF in late January.

Milan Momcilovic had his best scoring performance since late November, as he racked up 18 points, including four three-pointers.

Both teams have very winnable games to end the season, as BYU hosts Utah and Iowa State travels to take on Kansas State.

Those two games will be crucial in determining seeding and matchups in the Big 12 Tournament.
