Commanders continue busy offseason by re-signing 10-time Pro Bowler

The Washington Commanders are bringing back one of the anchors of their defense as they look to replicate their success from 2024.

Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner agreed to a new one-year deal with the Commanders on Thursday, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Media. Wagner will earn $8 million guaranteed with another $1.5 million in incentives.

Wagner negotiated the deal himself and did not use an agent.

Wagner joined the Commanders on a one-year deal last offseason. The 34-year-old showed that he is still capable of playing at a high level and was named to the Pro Bowl for the 10th time in his career.

The only time since 2014 that Wagner did not make the Pro Bowl was in 2022, when he spent a lone season with the Los Angeles Rams.

Wagner spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in the second round in 2012. He signed a five-year deal with the Rams in 2022 but was released after just one season. Wagner then had a second stint with the Seahawks in 2023 before landing in Washington.

In 17 games last season, Wagner led the Commanders with 132 total tackles. He also had two sacks and a forced fumble.

The Commanders have already had a big offseason and added star wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the mix via a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. Keeping Wagner was another priority for him, and they have now crossed that off their list.
